PFC Robert Vargo

While serving with the first Cavalry Division, his unit became engaged with Viet Cong in Bon Son Province in a mountainous area northeast of Saigon.  The 1 ^st Cavalry Air Mobile Division battled a guerilla force of perhaps 250 men holding a concealed underground fortress in the foothills of coastal Bon Son Province. In a nine hour fight the Cavalrymen killed 73 Communist troops but had 19 dead and 33 wounded. It was during this action that PFC Vargo lost his life.
