“For Heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force. As a member of C Co. 1 st Battalion 7 th Cavalry, Specialist Four Pizzino distinguished himself by heroic action on 15 November, 1965, in the Battle of La Drang Valley, Republic of Vietnam. On this date, Company C, in defense of a portion of the battalion perimeter, was attacked by an estimated three companies of North Vietnamese. During the course of the attack, Specialist Four Pizzino, in order to place more accurate fire on the enemy and to keep his portion of the defense position from being penetrated, displayed outstanding courage by exposing himself repeatedly to enemy fire. It was while successfully defending his position that Specialist Four Pizzino was mortally wounded. His actions played a key role in the successful repulsion of the enemy attack. This outstanding display of aggressiveness, devotion to duty and personal bravery is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon Specialist Four Pizzino, his unit and the United States Army.”
