OFFICE INFORMATION
The Harrison County Recorder's Office is the official land records office for all real estate located in Harrison County. The office keeps and maintains accurate land records that are current, legible and easily accessible. An important aspect of the Recorder's work is to index each document to make it readily available to the public. Accurate indexing makes it possible for person searching land records to find the documents necessary to establish a "chain of title" and ensures that any debts or encumbrances against the property are evident.
To receive copies of documents, the Recorder charges $2.00 per page. Required information for locating documents includes the property owner's names, volume and page, subdivision name and lot number of township, range and section to locate documents. Copies may be obtained by coming to the office or by sending a request by mail. The appropriate copy fee is required prior to mailing of copies.
DUTIES
The Recorder is responsible for indexing of document and for collection of all appropriate filing fees. Recording fees are set by the State of Ohio. The Recorder has the important task of keeping up-to-date records pertaining to ownership of real estate and to all encumbrances or liens upon it. The Recorder makes a complete, accurate and permanent record of every document pertaining to the conveyance and encumbrance of land within Harrison County, while retaining them in archival form and providing public accessibility.

*Our office has full time employees to serve customers.
*We carefully inspect all documents to be recorded. If there is an error, we make every effort to have the document corrected.
*The office has a 2-3 working day turn-around from the time a document is recorded to the time it is mailed back to the customer.
*The office does not furnish forms.
*Only completed documents are recorded.
*A self-addressed stamped envelope is required for all mailings.
*Certified copies of Veteran's DD214's to funeral homes is provided.
*Veterans are entitled to free certified copies.
