Livestock Production
Harrison County livestock production is heavily weighted toward dairy, cattle, and sheep. The increased availability of reclaimed surface mined land for grazing purposes also has brought a focus on goat production.
A recent trend for some Harrison County farms is exotic livestock. The northern portion of the county is home to an elk herd, and there are two bison herds in the county. Several farms are producing longhorn cattle and other unusual breeds of cattle. Ostrich and emu are raised in Harrison County as well.
Total livestock production in Harrison County generates annual cash receipts in excess of $8.2 million.
