MISSION STATEMENT

The Harrison County Community Corrections Program is dedicated to maintaining a safe, secure community environment by using up-to-date equipment and academic resources.  The efforts of this program strive to strike an appropriate balance between the problems of prison overcrowding county jail costs and the needs/problems and finding local answers to them.

As a department of the Harrison County Common Pleas Court, General Division, the Community Corrections Program is dedicated to providing professional services in the most cost-effective manner to the Court, to the community and to probationers while always keeping in mind our ultimate priority being the protection of the community through reduction of further criminal behavior.  Secondarily, the Court’s programs are designed to assist the offender in rehabilitation.  The Court will practice positive reinforcement with offenders and use negative actions only as a last resort in cases where all other options have been exhausted.

As a department of the Harrison County Common Pleas Court, General Division, the Community Corrections Program will strive to continue using community partners regarding the community service for the value of the community and for the success of rehabilitating the offender.  The department will document such input and any press releases in the policy and procedure manual.

This department will use skilled, qualified personnel, in conjunction with local treatment facilities, random urinalysis testing, and electronic monitoring to meet the specific needs of individual offenders and to fulfill the above-stated mission statement.  Drug offenders, offenders with multiple needs, and/or those needing different services than this Community Corrections Program will be target for traditional supervision and/or incarceration.

The Community Corrections program is under the guidance and direction of the Common Pleas Court General Division, by the authority of Judge T. Shawn Hervey.
